Target schools
I’ve been researching colleges to apply for transfer when I finish cc, the problem is there aren’t lots of threads on here mentioning target schools for S&T recruitment ( threads on here mostly compare college’s IB recruitment.) so my question is, are there specific target schools I should look into or are they just the classics holy trinity HYP.
Thanks in advance for whoever answers :)
For Sales & Trading (S&T) recruitment, the target schools often overlap with those for Investment Banking, but there are some nuances. Based on the most helpful WSO content:
Classic Targets (HYP and Ivy League): These schools are always strong choices for S&T recruitment. Banks heavily recruit from these institutions due to their prestige and the quality of candidates.
Top STEM Schools: Given the increasing focus on algorithmic trading and quantitative skills in S&T, schools like MIT, Stanford, and Carnegie Mellon are highly regarded. Their strong emphasis on math, programming, and engineering makes them standout options.
Other Targets: Schools like NYU Stern, Duke, Michigan (Ross), UVA, and UC Berkeley are also excellent for S&T recruitment. They have strong finance programs and are well-represented in the industry.
Regional Targets: Some schools are considered regional targets but still perform well for S&T. Examples include UT Austin, UCLA, and USC.
Non-Traditional Targets with Strong STEM Programs: As highlighted in WSO threads, schools like Virginia Tech and other top-tier state schools with strong engineering or quantitative programs can also be competitive for S&T roles, especially if you build relevant skills and network effectively.
If you're transferring from a community college, focus on schools with strong finance or STEM programs and robust on-campus recruiting for S&T. Networking and internships will also play a critical role in your success.
