Teach me about fin/econ careers that are not the usual IB or S&T
i read and see around the internet stuff, careers with the word "research" in it, are there teams who do macro reaserch and stuff in Banks? This is a pdf about emplyment rates at LSE.
what the word "research" really refers to there, other than equity research?
the real broader question is, can you teach me something about all of those career that are something along the line of "economic research" "investment research" and stuff? something that is basically theory+ a lil bit of quantitative reasoning. (but that is not the "quant research" people usually refer too)
Have you never spent more than 5 minutes watching Bloomberg or CNBC and seen an analyst talk about currencies, rates, stocks, commodities, etc? Those people work in research
Yes. Research includes equities, macro, credit, cross-asset, commodities, FX etc.
But my question is, how are this people “named”, if you want search them on the internet or if you want to look the positions on LinkedIn for example. How are this positions named? And how many slots are there?
"credit research"
"Commodities research"
Etc.
Idk what you're expecting them to be named like given equity research is named "equity research"
Because there are so much fewer like commodities, FX, countries etc than equities, and equities are a perpetual instrument (unlike credit), ER is a significantly bigger division than the rest of these. To give you scope, the European ER staff at my bank probably number ~80-100 and the other research teams are probably 20 or so.
The barriers to entry are also higher for stuff like macro research. You tend to need higher education (masters/PhD).
interested in a research career and asking this ngmi imho
How can you statistically demonstrate what you are saying ?
asking for an empirical proof lmao.
But seriously assuming you sincerely want to pursue this career I would note most great researchers are like dogs with a bone after tasks and the amount of info on the internet including this website and with all the agents is immense compared to 10-20 years ago. So I do think the “explain it all to me from step 1” is not exactly the kind of mentality correlated with success in the above. Of course this can be adapted and of course this website is a great forum for topics where there is not much info, for unique situation, for evaluating competing offers etc etc
Best of luck
Still provided no evidence of causation or correlation, very bald to assume a full career path from a post
Interviewers don’t consult statistical proofs before putting applications in the trash.
Still have a full head of hair and the MS wasn’t mine just to be clear
