I landed my first equity trading gig during my junior year at a non-target but let's take a step back and look at how it all started.
My freshman year I was running my parents' E-Trade account and developed excellent stock picking skills. My mom was so proud of the returns I was able to achieve that she would constantly brag about it at work (comparing me to the likes of a young Einhorn) and it just happened that her boss wanted to discuss a few of my top picks with me. After about 3-4 of my initially successful trading ideas, my mom's boss started to lose a lot of money. This is when my mom got scared, and said, 'You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.' I whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought, 'Nah, forget it. Yo, holmes to Bel-Air!' I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabbie, 'Yo homes smell ya later!' Looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.
^ well done, well done indeed
thanks...
That alone you deserve your STAR back.
I came from the deep south, family knew nothing about finance. For my 18th birthday, my parents sat me down in the kitchen and told me about a online investment program that returned 200% a month, and as a birthday present, they said they'd invest $300 into it for me.
Six months later, the program was miraculously still running and the $300 had turned into $20,000. I withdrew $4000 and started putting some of it into other similar investment programs. Unfortunately most of them went bust with a few months and so I began to get a little frustrated. All these programs credited the forex market as the source of their returns so I decided to cut the middle man out and learn to trade the forex market myself.
I learned to trade completely on my own, after dropping out of college(never took econ or calculus), so my trading methods are very unorthodox and very simple. Which is probably why they're successful.
No one else has a story like that.
hey i like your salt of the earth sage of omaha talk can I talk to you every now and again and also can i befriend you
true story? sounds amazing.
More please, im so sick of all these dweebs on here that all have the same story.
Target school -> analyst -> bschool -> MD/blalbla
or the "Im from a non-target, and worked as a social media manager for free for a few months, what are my chances?"
Black mail.
I have a question for those reminscing about their employment roots has anyone ever forgotten how to analyze stock after doing it successfully for months and making good money, because I just did what mystikal would call a bounce back or what robin williams would call a happy thought in peter pan. I just want to know if my brain is melting or if like day- day said in next friday playas f%ck up
Im simply restating my question
Gave an MD a handjob
Yes.
called the same company/emailed the owners for 18 months, and was rejected 3 times. Here i am :)
Graduated from a non-target with a 2.8 GPA. Sorry for partying. Came to the realization I should have buckled down in school in Jan. of my Sr. Year..... too late....No internships or any qualifications other than the fact I had "amassed" a small PA (I was trading during classes) had been interested in trading since grade school. With about 3 weeks left on my lease (before walking hat in hand/moving back into childhood household) I finally found someone willing to hire me as an analyst for $30k a year which was very humbling. I worked 100+ hour weeks for about 2 years before moving to the trading desk. I was the Jr trader at a small firm but quickly given more Sr. responsibility before accepting an offer/moving to NYC. Was very comfortable trading but started over in NYC doing breakfast runs/errands/all the other things a first year does.... Just to be at a more reputable firm/in the City. Again, humbling after having been employed for 3 years but worth the effort in the end. Moral of the story is there is always hope for the non-targets and the harder you work the "luckier" you get. Also in this marketplace you are NOT "Above" any jobs... (How many people at your University Career Office actually worked on Wall Street?? .... Exactly) Get your foot in the door and perform..... the rest will take care of itself.
