Trading Desk Strategies at MM-Based Firms
Not in the industry so please excuse the vague title or if this question is a bit ignorant.
For market making/quantitative based firms such as SIG, Jane Street, etc. what type of trading strategies are the prop desks typically using for their 'hand trades' (as opposed to automated trading)? Is it techincals trading, swing trading, arbitrage, etc? What percentage would you say is day trading vs holding overnight positions?

Jane Street visited my campus last spring and a similar question was asked. The recruiter stressed that while they do market making they're not necessarily a "market making" firm. Also said that on average they hold positions for a number of days, but that this can vary widely. They didn't go into any specifics about their strategies so I can't help you there

Anyone else have any further insight? I'm really just trying to see if/how these types of trading desks are much different than most other prop desks.
