Trading habits seeping into daily conversation
Personally not on a desk but communicate with traders often. Whether speaking about markets or yesterday’s dinner they carry strong assumptions when they speak. IE: won’t ask you what you think about x event, but will assume what you think right off the bat. I personally find this quite annoying. Any one else experience similar events or am I overthinking it?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for trading habits to seep into daily conversations. Traders often operate in high-pressure environments where quick decision-making and strong convictions are essential. This can translate into their communication style, where they may come across as assertive or assume others' opinions without asking.
If you find this behavior annoying, you're not alone. Many people outside the trading floor have noted similar experiences. A useful approach might be to steer the conversation by gently challenging their assumptions or redirecting the discussion to encourage a more open dialogue. For example, you could say, "That's an interesting take—what made you think I would see it that way?" This can help foster a more balanced exchange while also addressing the behavior in a constructive manner.
