What is the actual GPA needed to break into S&T?

I recently got the chance to speak with a VP at a BB, and one question that I asked was the minimum GPA that would be required for either a FT or SA role in S&T. He told me that if a candidate had somewhere in the 3.2/3.3 range, they would be fine.

However, earlier this year, I spoke with the head of global markets at another full-service investment bank (think Nomura), and he said candidates hoping for real consideration should have above a 3.5 and even up to 3.7.

In the past, I had thought that the baseline for real consideration was 3.5. I'm curious to see what other people think about this and what might be truly required to break into S&T, assuming that the candidate is otherwise qualified.

Honestly, I was just looking for general thoughts. Yeah, the minimums are the requirement, but some places seem to be looking for GPAs a little higher than their minimum to offer the candidates real consideration unless they are very well connected.
