90-min Growth Equity Model Test

Hey everyone, I'm trying to prepare for a 90-min minority growth equity model test (Sunday evening) that will be built from a blank excel. Minority investments and growth equity are extremely uncommon in my coverage group, so I'd appreciate any model examples or guides that have proven helpful for others.

I bought the BIWS growth equity course a while ago for another process and it was the opposite of helpful. The WSO course is also useless and it's about 12 years old.

Thanks in advance!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some actionable steps and resources to prepare for your 90-minute growth equity model test:

  1. Focus on Core Financial Modeling Skills:

    • Brush up on 3-statement modeling, DCF modeling, and LBO modeling. These are foundational and often adapted for growth equity scenarios.
    • Use the Financial Modeling Templates available on WSO to practice building models from scratch. These templates can help you structure your approach efficiently.
  2. Understand Growth Equity Nuances:

    • Growth equity typically involves minority investments, so focus on valuation techniques like comparable company analysis (Comps) and DCF with an emphasis on growth assumptions.
    • Be prepared to model scenarios with revenue growth drivers, margin expansion, and capital efficiency metrics (e.g., ROIC, payback periods).
  3. Practice Excel Efficiency:

    • Advanced Excel formulas and shortcuts are critical for time management. WSO offers resources on Index Match, Advanced Excel Formulas, and other tools to speed up your work.
  4. Leverage WSO Interview Questions:

    • Review Private Equity Interview Questions and Venture Capital Interview Questions to understand the types of questions and scenarios you might encounter.
  5. Templates and Guides:

    • Download the 27 financial modeling templates offered by WSO. These include examples for various scenarios and can serve as a reference for structuring your test model.
  6. Time Management:

    • Practice building a model within 90 minutes. Start with a blank Excel sheet and simulate the test environment to improve your speed and accuracy.

If you're looking for more specific examples or guides, the WSO forums and community discussions on growth equity modeling might provide additional insights. Good luck with your test!
