Brown vs Yale for VC
Okay so I have a couple of days before the deadline. I need to decide. My plan is to study computer science or engineering undergrad --> intern every summer at as many top-tier internships in IB and tech as possible --> apply to Stanford GSB as a senior.
My logic is that at Brown it will be easier to get a sky-high GPA due to their ABC/NC grading policy (no +'s and -'s) and the ability to choose gut classes to round out my schedule. From what I've heard Stanford GSB really likes high GPAs. I also feel that at Brown it will be easier to complete a computer science/engineering degree.
I also like Brown more. I went to both campuses for their admit visits. I was pleasantly surprised by Brown. The students were fun, friendly and not weird hippies like I thought they could be. When I went to Yale, I thought the prefrosh were geeky and dull but very intelligent. I also noted that Yale felt professional--as in they seemed like future IBers. Maybe I will have less competition if I do end up looking for an investment banking job from Brown? I don't know at this point. But for now, I am leaning towards choosing Brown. That's where my heart is.
But should I go to Yale because its prestige and connections are that much more worth it? I'm not so worried about getting good internships. I have some connections. But is Yale >>> Brown for later down the road for venture capital? I also got the sense that at Yale, STEM is so bad that many people drop out and just study Econ, which is what I'm afraid might happen to me.
you will do better at a school you like more im one hundred percent sure on this
Definitely pick the school you like more - in this case Brown. You will have good opportunities coming out of both
Did you apply to Berkeley? Stanford? MIT? Caltech?
Are there any other options we should be aware of?
I don't think you can go wrong with either of these schools, but neither has a lot of comparative advantages for VC stuff.
I applied to Stanford. It was my top choice, but unfortunately I did not get in.
