Fintech Startup to Private Equity or Asset Management

I'm on my junior year and looking for summer internships. So far I've had a hard time finding private equity or asset management jobs in my city. It's not that I don't get interviews, it's that there's a tremendous lack of job positions junior level in this field in Barcelona, where I live. I'm talking about literally 5 to 10 (max.) listed job positions for interns or analysts here in Barcelona. And most of the PE jobs are from firms that invest only in real estate anyways.

I have received an offer from a UK-based fintech startup that operates mainly here in Spain and is planning to expand to the US. The business model is actually pretty damn good and I love the idea behind it.

But my long-term professional goal remains within AM or PE. This October I'll be doing an exchange semester in Warwick Business School (UK), and I'll be applying for PE and AM internships there, where there's a dramatically higher offer than in Barcelona.

Also, maybe worth noting is the fact that this startup's clients are SMEs with long payment collection terms (30-60 days) that want to get the cash before the payment is due. The startup is basically a platform that connects high net worth investors and asset management firms with these SMEs; the investors get a 5-7% profit within a period of around 55 days, and the SMEs get the cash before the payment deadline. I'm saying this because there's a chance that I might be able to make relevant connections with people from these asset management firms, although I'm not quite sure about this yet.

So, TLDR: What should I expect when applying to PE and AM firms as a graduate after doing an internship in a Fintech startup as a junior?

Any input is appreciated, thank you very much!
