Why is there no forum dedicated to VC????

Not too much to say here besides the title. Think it would definitely be worth adding a forum for, considering it’s becoming a more viable exit opportunity for many young finance and tech professionals.

GE investors think somewhat similar to PE ones: financial model is important, they’re looking for ways to make operational improvements, etc.

VCs are really trying to evaluate whether the team can execute, if the market opportunity is big enough, and whether the company displays defensibility on the technical and/or business side. Much more narrative-focused.

Maybe some late stage VCs are different but I’ve seen firms do a Series C where the financial model wasn’t really that important

Both are, in a sense, throwing darts at the board but here are the differences:

GE: Tries to calculate the air friction, use aerodynamic formulas to aim the dart to maximize chances for a good score

VC: Looks at the horoscope and maybe check the quality of the darts, and throws a few hundred in the general direction of the board hoping 1 can hit the mark

The number of VC jobs available is tiny, and the number of good ones available is even smaller. There’s just not enough people in these roles to sustain a full forum, I would imagine.

Would be kind of cool if we had substantive discussion about VC on here but the strategies around getting a VC job are so different from the tracked paths in banking or consulting
