Advice needed for MSF program.
Hi everyone,
I am current an accounting major student, but I am planning to go to graduate school for finance. I was looking at a post--Comprehensive US MSF Ranking. I picked Unv of Rochester, Fordham, Bentley, however I have no certainty that I will be admitted to any of them. Can you please give me suggestions for schools which I will be safe to apply?
My overall GPA is 3.78, accounting GPA is 3.89, but I only have 600 on GMAT( Q49, V23) two internships( not so good)
My GRE is better 1410(Q760, V650) BUT I mass up with AWA 2.5 ONLY. Will schools focus on my AWA a lot if I apply with GRE?
I am not sure if it is too late to take GMAT again, all the deadline is coming soon, yet I have not start to apply. = =
Thanks to everyone who shares the experiences with me. :)
BTW, I did my undergrad in FIU(Tier 5....)
Some schools will accept GRE over GMAT, check the reqs. That said, many schools will take unofficial GMAT scores if you've already tested. Raise your verbal score! MSFs are have lower GMAT and work exp. reqs than MBA programs.
I'd say retake GMAT and aim for 650+ to give yourself a better edge. Most programs post their admit profiles, so compare yourself to these stats. Apply to all that you might be interested in.
Thank you pplstuff! I have checked some of schools, the average their student is around 650. If I did not score 650+ next time, do you think it is worth to wait and not to apply until I get that score? Appy for fall2014?
Assuming you know you're going for MSF, this would be my approach: 1) Firm up your school choices (even if they're 'reach' schools, decide where you'd like to apply) 2) Come up with your story, and make sure your resume, recommendations, and essays align with this story. 3) Retake GMAT. Your Q is solid, bringing verbal to low-mid 30's would put you at ~650 mark. 4) Apply for this year... Worst case, you get denied and you start rebuilding your applications for next year with stronger work exp and GMAT.
Just my .02
Your stats aren't as bad as you think. Expand the schools you want to apply to. Your GPA is pretty high and your GMAT is decent enough.
Are you an international student? What do you want to do with your MSF?
Thank you TNA!! yes! I am international student(but I am permanent resident and I did my undergrad in US) I am wondering how did you recognized this.( hope not from my bad grammar) lol
I want to start with my career in finance( focus on investment fund and securities), so I thought MSF might bring me to the starting point.
I saw a lot of your posts about MSF. Could share a little bit about your background, if you do not mind?
Click the link to my site in my signature. The about section includes my story and stuff like that.
I just took a guess since it is something that figures into the equation when picking schools. Being a permanent resident is great though.
I'd have to look at your resume to know better, but you could probably get into OSU, would be competitive at Villanova (possibly) and maybe UIUC. Once again I would have to look at things more before I could say yes or no.
Can I email my resume to you?
