asset management- outsourced CIO
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had information regarding outsourced CIOs? Are the skills developed in that position directly transferable to Private Equity? How does the job compare to other groups in the industry such as wealth management (or as stated above PE)? Any advice is appreciated!
I work for the AM division of one of the large brackets and we have a reputable outsourced CIO group - all my knowledge stems from there. So take with a grain of salt this sample size of 1 :) The context that I am most familiar with is acting as an OCIO for non-profits. In that regard, there is huge transferrability to other Asset Management jobs (both on the institutional side as well as private wealth). Many of the non-profits OCIO groups work with are private foundations or otherwise private entities, so a lot of overlap with WM. I do not see nearly as much overlap with PE. Good luck!

The OCIO that I'm looking at works on various asset classes for bigger institutions including HF, PE, etc. this is why I was curious about leveraging to PE if I were to work in that asset class. Also, are you familiar with whether this work would be considered a FO/BO? I plan on going to business school and want the best opportunity to go to a good school..
