LP-side operations, 10+ years behind the platforms allocators actually use, Q&A
Hi everyone! Following the lead of some of the other intro threads here, thought I'd open one from a different corner of the industry.
I've spent the last decade-plus on the LP/allocator side, inside the operational layer behind manager research and portfolio decisions: GP document management, capital account reconciliation, look-through exposure reporting. The work that keeps a fund-of-funds, family office, foundations, endowment's numbers actually matching what the GPs report.
Most threads here are front-office (picking managers, building theses, client work), but there's a whole operational world underneath it. Reconciling across fund administrators with different formats, figuring out what to do when NAV gets reported differently every quarter, reporting exposures/performance, data enrichment for better analysis, that's the day-to-day.
So, ask me anything. What people are most interested in, how data enrichment works, how documents are getting managed for big institutions, how reporting works at a family office or fund-of-funds, or what breaks most often behind the scenes.
