Bank of America's past Summer Analyst class
Is there anybody who worked in BofA's past (2008) SA class that can share some information? I'm looking for stats such as:
- Number of candidates in the SA class / number of candidates to whom were extended offers / number of candidates who accepted offers.
- A rough breakdown between which schools were represented.
- What you thought about the caliber of your fellow co-interns.
- Anything else that you think would be relevant.
In return, I can tell you what you'd like to know about ML's summer/incoming class. Call it an objective way to analyze what our futures will look like.
Feel free to PM me if you want to keep it private.
Who cares
What does it even matter? There is no way anyone can give you detailed enough information to help you.
I care, and I'm sure other Merrill/BofA kids also care (and, if you don't, there's no reason for you to respond to this thread; go PMS elsewhere).
I know all that information for Merrill, so I don't see any reason why someone who worked for BofA wouldn't know the same for that bank.
Not sure about the incoming analyst class stats...
But based on what happened in this past year with many 1st year analysts in BBs, I think your offer will probably still be secure.. However, I think the firm will start downsizing the incoming analyst class within 3-6 months after you start... Also, if they later decide to throw you into a BO position, you really should not feel too upset b/c you still have a job...
Interestingly enough, Merrill is already trying to downsize its incoming analyst class. It's renegotiating contracts w/ schools and encouraging some people who previously accepted offers to renege and go elsewhere. In my group 10 were extended and accepted offers, and I already know that 4 have changed their minds. I believe that the incoming class will be about 80% of the previously anticipated/offered incoming class, and about 50%-60% of the summer class.
uru,
Is Merrill really asking it's incoming analysts to renege on their offers? Is this for IBD only or other divisions as well? And are they at least paying for you to walk away?
Thanks!
Can anyone confirm that Merrill or BofA has approached incoming analysts? What did they say? Is it both sides, or just MER?
I was a Merrill IBK summer analyst 2008 and accepted my FT offer. I have not been asked to renege. I have as recently as last week been told by HR that they don't know what is going to happen and to wait until the end of the month to find out more. They're "trying to situate everybody in the analyst class still."
Masterg - Which office?

I was part of the summer analyst program 2008 at ML HK in the equities space. ml extended an offer to me after the summer and i accepted.
i was scheduled to begin early 2009, but recently, they asked me to start when the rest of the analysts begin training in NYC around July.
If you read my other post, you'll see that I did 2 BB internships.
