BCG Online Application + Referral - When to expect to hear back

Applied to BCG online and an employee also forwarded my resume. This was about 4 weeks ago. The online submission mentions 3 to 6 weeks for a response.

What has been others' experience in terms of turnaround time after submitting application online with BCG? Just want to get an idea of the timeframe as well as understand when I should follow-up with the one who sent my resume in.

FYI - applied for a post-MBA role. Am from a non-target.

Thank you.

PS: Apologies for posting again in this forum. I replied to another thread but noticed that it was in 'Get a Job' forum. I meant to post in the Consulting forum.

Is this for full-time? Based on what I've heard, the NYC/NJ office have already finished extending offers and have been interviewing for the past month already. If it's SA, I wouldn't be too worried.

No harm in reaching out anyways though.

Are you an experienced hire? Or still in school?

In former case, it's a tough call - I have no idea what the normal turnover is and how these opportunities pop up. But if you're still in school, it's not looking good.

I completed my school but have been in consulting (other companies) throughout my career. So I guess I am an experienced hire but would still need to start at the Consultant level (post-MBA) as I have not done this type of work.

Sav and notthehospitalER - Thank you for the information. It doesn't sound optimistic but I will stay positive and will send a follow-up to that person who sent in the referral. Even if I am an offered an interview but it's after few months (say in Jan when they do internships), it will be fine - just need an opportunity as I don't have visibility from non-target.

Online applications outside of a formal campus recruiting process are pretty much a blackhole.

I applied online without a referral to all three of the MBB and got first rounds at all of them. It's about how well the resume fits the screening criteria.

Congrats. That's actually pretty miraculous for a consulting-track position. I've only heard of that level of response for expert/knowledge roles. I was referred at 2 of 3 MBB and got recruiter phone screens within a week. No referral at the other which led to deafening silence.

Sigh, this is definitely what I've heard. Unfortunately, despite having made contacts at five other firms (including the other B and M), I have yet to make a substantial connection with anyone at BCG. I was originally going to apply to the Bridge workshop but the recruiting team told me to just apply for full-time as they were still “actively hiring” for North America. So I put in an application as to not let that (perhaps, perceived) opportunity pass by.

That may have been a bad call on my part. I’ve continued my efforts to find a connection – so far unsuccessful though.

My background for anyone who’s interested: JD from a top Canadian law school, no business or quant background (great UG gpa, so-so JD gpa), currently working for the federal government on some pretty high-profile files.

Bringing this thread to life again... Noticed that there was a question to me from deerhunter.

@deerhunter: I never heard from this B of MBB. I have no way to verify that referral was actually made but if so, it didn't help. I do have solid consulting experience, MBA from non-target, and great UG/PG GPA. Did you hear back from them and if so, after how much time?

@devildog: You mentioned that you were late to the recruiting process. When did you apply with MBB and how long did they take to get back to you? Was this a specialist or generalist position?

@brj: Did you apply during the recruiting season or off-cycle?

Has anyone else had luck with online application this year? Did they start reaching out to applicants?

Thank you.

By "late" I just mean I only started working on my applications a week before the deadline. I know many people spend a year preparing, I didn't do that. I was hired into the generalist consulting track as an ADC / APD.
