Best Major for UPenn College of Arts and Sciences

Hey guys,

I previously transferred into UPenn's College of Arts and Sciences from another uni and I hope to work on Wall Street and (most likely) in Sales & Trading in the future. This means Wharton's out of the picture but I can still take a few courses there. What is the best major within the College of Arts and Sciences to get recruited? I'm interested in the PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) major so far and I'm hoping to load a few STEM courses (ideally a minor). Any advice? Thanks!

Can't speak to upenn in particular, but any relatively easy semi quantitative major would do. You can always do Econ, though that isn't all that easy. I studied applied math and regret how difficult it was. I think you should study something relatively easy, get a nice and high GPA, and enjoy your college days! UPenn is a great school, so exactly what you studied probably won't be a huge issue. If you really really want to do everything you can to get a job in trading, major in something quantitive and minor in either Econ or finance (can you minor in Wharton from arts and sciences??) IB traders will tell you how they don't really use much math or do any rigorous programming, but many non-bank traders do. Quantitative, hard skills will rarely harm your resume.

PPE covers all bases fairly well. CS will help for any role, but only pursue it if you enjoy the subject. Also look into physics or math for something less "extreme" than a hyper trade-focused major like CS. I majored in physics at a school similar to UPenn (UChicago); went through recruiting just fine
