Best Personal Labtop for Banking
Hey,
Basically, I'm an incoming 1st-year analyst and start in a few months. I have been an Apple guy my whole life and am very invested in the Apple ecosystem: iPhone, Macbook, iMessage, Apple TV, etc....
It's time for me to get a new laptop and was wondering if anyone has a Macbook as an analyst or should I make the switch to PC. I've had Macbooks my whole life, but feel like using a PC all the time might annoy me when I come home to a Mac. I see some old threads related to this with decent responses. Macbooks are so clean and easy to use that I feel like I might miss it. Cost isn't the biggest issue (It's a graduation gift).

Pretty sure I get a work laptop, but will probably end up doing some work on it. Do you think that's the best PC Labtop if I went that route?
For me, yeah. I love their keyboards and that red dot nub thing that I prefer over trackpads. They're also reliably built and have great battery life as well. That said, I've recently switched to a Macbook at home and since I don't do any work on it (other than studying for CFA) it's been great.
Don't let compliance catch you doing this. In reality, you'll be bringing it home every night.

Using a PC all the time does the opposite of annoy me when I come home to my Macbook; it makes me love the simplicity, interface, and Apple ecosystem even more. It puts me in a "at home" state of mind. Idk maybe I'm a brainwashed Apple fanboy, but I love it.
Using a PC just reminds me of work.

I have the HP Spectre laptop and I'm really happy with it. It's a PC but looks and feels like a Macbook so for me it's the best of both worlds.
What specs? Thinking about getting one when my MacBook Pro dies
Not sure it's available anymore, but mine is the Spectre x360 with 13.3 inch screen, 16 GB memory, 1 TB hard drive.

+1 for the XPS 13. Just bought one myself after being on a Macbook Pro since 2013. Battery lasts longer, display is gorgeous, carbon shell is soft on wrists, definitely one of the best computers I've owned.
Agreed on the XPS, I have an XPS 15 and it handles all my personal gaming flawlessly. Beautiful computer
Get an Ipad or an Xbox. Last thing you'll want to do after staring at a screen all day is to open a laptop at home...
I use a PC desktop at home for VPN and an iPad Pro for on the go, which has approved iOS apps for work email, PDF markup etc.
A great resource to decide when to buy an Apple product is: https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Mac. Looks like you should try to hold off on buying a Mac desktop or laptop for a little while as they are severely due for a refresh. If I were in your shoes would probably do that - just wait.
thinkpad x220 with IPS screen. i tested out the xps 13 and the form factor is great but i hated the keyboard.
Very satisfied with my Thinkpad T450s, some of the best money I have spent due to reliability and performance. Think the line is now up to the 480s (i.e. T480s)

IDK if anyone has mentioned it yet but you should seriously consider the new Asus Zenbook Pro 15. It's insanely powerful (i9) and has a 4k screen. A Gtx 1050 for video needs (which I doubt are going to be too high seeing as it's for banking), 4 gbs of GDDR5 (Which I would assume is expandable) and a 1 tb SSD (which I would assume is expandable as well if you're a hands-on guy). It has plenty of ports for all of your USB/monitor needs. To top it all off, it only weighs 4 pounds so it's really convenient for carrying.
For the past five years I've used the Macbook Pro with Windows installed (using Boot Camp). Basically running Windows software on Mac hardware. Best of both worlds - love this set up and will never change.
Which Macbook Pro? I had the 2014 Macbook Air, wanted to use Boot Camp, but I am afraid that my Mac wont have the capacity to handle it.
I have a 2016 Macbook Pro and I do the same thing. i7 with 16GB RAM and 250 GB SSD. Nothing crazy, but it handles bootcamp just fine.
Does an external keyboard work well with this setup?
