Bocconi Uni or KCL?

I have an offer from King’s College London (Accounting and Finance) and Bocconi University to study International Economics and Management. I live in the UK. I speak fluent English and Italian, and I want to work in the City. Which should I choose? I heard that King’s is only a semi-target, and that bothers me greatly. I know it’s still prestigious and a great uni, but I don’t know if it’ll limit me getting a job in the City? Please let me know your thoughts!

Speaking as someone who just graduated from Bocconi, the Bocconi alumni network and connections within London are definitely very strong. The only potential downside of going to Bocconi in your program is that you'll be competing against the BIEF students (which you can transfer into from BIEM at the end of second year I believe?) and masters in finance. Generally speaking, continental candidates do more school (undergrad + masters) before heading to the city for full-time work, but I've definitely seen plenty of undergrads go straight to working full time so long as they're proactive and get internships (or spring weeks) on their resume to build it up before applying to programs. If you're planning on starting in 2021 fall, I would highly suggest doing something during 2021 summer (even if it's just some BS virtual internship or something at a family business, etc.) because then you'll be way ahead of anyone else applying to spring weeks from Bocconi. In fact, I think most of the people I know who got spring weeks from the school, then converted them to SA positions and full time, all did some kind of program or internship the summer before starting. Good luck regardless of what you choose though! Both are great schools and I'm sure you can make the most out of any experience!

I'd go with Bocconi. I have heard from some friends that it can be a bit of an issue if you don't speak Italian, but seeing that you're already fluent you shouldn't have too many problems. Regardless, I think it places quite a lot better than King's, which I would hardly call a semi-target. If you take a look at the alumni network it's not even close. Milano is also a great place to be as a student.

I don't know... Yeah. Almost definitely yes.

Go Bocconi. KCL struggles to place well and seems to have a better international reputation (probably a function of being in London) than domestically. It's a distant fourth among the London universities (and probably tenth or so in the UK), whereas Bocconi is Italy's best option for finance. Recruiters, even in London, know that.

KCL does actually have a decent amount of alumni in finance, but they often completed masters at a target university afterwards. I would not say the network is as terrible as some people make it out to be, but it's far behind the six targets and likely behind Edinburgh, Nottingham, Bristol, Durham etc. too when it comes to recruiting.
