I can’t speak to Bain / THL or any of the other larger PE firms in Boston. I can say that PE hours in Boston are very firm dependent and are, on average, better than New York funds. My network is somewhat limited, but the datapoints I do have would suggest that Boston folks tend to value facetime slightly less (with some known exceptions such as Audax) and tend to be less cutthroat. However, it is important that you do your diligence on whichever firm you join because the variability in PE culture is much more massive than banking/consulting. Even individuals within PE firms can take different approaches to how they manage analysts / associates so working with one Partner could be vastly different than another Partner in the same firm.
