Centerview vs. Perella Weinberg London

Hi guys,

Sorry to bother you with a vs question but I have actually been made an offer by these two comparable firms in M&A in London.

I come from a good UK university and will be joining the English team of these banks.

I see these Pros and Cons

  • Global track record: Centerview > Perella
  • EU track record: Perella > Centerview

Centerview only has 10 guys in London vs. 100 for Perella - I wonder whether this is a Pro or a Con since it could be great in a entrepreneurial atmosphere.

What do you think?

Congrats on the offers. IMO, always look at the country you'll be working in for comparison. IE, UBS is falling apart in the US, but globally, its still a very strong bank. Would I consider working for UBS in the US? Probably not.

That said, I think in general, Perella has a better brand than Centerview.

Good luck with your decision, its a great problem to have.

Congrats for your offers. Is this for FT or SA? As stated by Whiskey I will go with PWP since the company is stronger in Europe and has a more known brand here in EU. Can I send you a PM to ask a coulpe of things on their recruitment process?

I'm grateful that I have two middle fingers, I only wish I had more.

Thanks for your answers.

Generally what do you think about starting in a team of 10 people (I also have an opportunity with a mid-market PE firm with a small team)?

Risk of cabin fever? Opportunity to learn faster?

I don't think you'll get the opportunity to "learn faster" at any PE shop.

I can't say for sure about MM PE shops, but if you look at the Mega funds, they only do a couple of deals per year where as in investment banking, your learning is like drinking from a fire hydrant because you're working on multiple deals / pitches.

From a pure learning perspective, investment banking is one of the best breeding grounds for PE. Plus, if you start at MM PE and want to move to a bigger fund, you will have problems without the brand name like PWP on your resume.
