Centerview vs. Perella Weinberg London

Hi guys,

Sorry to bother you with a vs question but I have actually been made an offer by these two comparable firms in M&A in London.

I come from a good UK university and will be joining the English team of these banks.

I see these Pros and Cons

  • Global track record: Centerview > Perella
  • EU track record: Perella > Centerview

Centerview only has 10 guys in London vs. 100 for Perella - I wonder whether this is a Pro or a Con since it could be great in a entrepreneurial atmosphere.

Congrats on the offers. IMO, always look at the country you'll be working in for comparison. IE, UBS is falling apart in the US, but globally, its still a very strong bank. Would I consider working for UBS in the US? Probably not.

That said, I think in general, Perella has a better brand than Centerview.

Congrats for your offers. Is this for FT or SA? As stated by Whiskey I will go with PWP since the company is stronger in Europe and has a more known brand here in EU. Can I send you a PM to ask a coulpe of things on their recruitment process?

Generally what do you think about starting in a team of 10 people (I also have an opportunity with a mid-market PE firm with a small team)?

Risk of cabin fever? Opportunity to learn faster?

 

I don't think you'll get the opportunity to "learn faster" at any PE shop.

I can't say for sure about MM PE shops, but if you look at the Mega funds, they only do a couple of deals per year where as in investment banking, your learning is like drinking from a fire hydrant because you're working on multiple deals / pitches.

From a pure learning perspective, investment banking is one of the best breeding grounds for PE. Plus, if you start at MM PE and want to move to a bigger fund, you will have problems without the brand name like PWP on your resume.
