Chances of Summer Internship + Eventual Offer

3.8+ GPA from semi-target (top West Coast public school)
econ major, 1 financial econ course, coursework is not math-heavy
no finance work experience
limited knowledge of Mandarin, probably only adequate for social settings
high standardized testing scores
is willing to work at any office in the world

My resume is more law-focused (high GPA, low experience), but I recently met some 1Ls and they told me that law school feels like a waste of time and money. If I can get an offer, then it is worth my while to see how I fare in banking, especially since ibanking and biglaw are somewhat similar in terms of hours (although bankers generally work more hours). I'm mainly looking to see if I can survive and be promoted in ibanking so that I do not have to go back and pay for more schooling.

I know my stats are probably too low for top BBs like GS and MS, but how about lower BBs or boutiques? I prefer lifestyle firms (if there are any) with lower pay and lower hours. Location doesn't matter, because I'm not too concerned with being close to relatives or any characteristics of the city (since I won't have time to explore if I am working in ibanking).

Your chances are directly correlated to how much time you spend networking and preparing for interviews. Nothing else.

The job market is so shitty right now that 3.9s at Harvard with IBD internships arent getting interviews. The only way to remedy that is by networking to actually get into the room in the first place.

So, reading your post, I'd place you between 0 and 3% currently.

Wtf... unless those 3.9s are majoring in art history or something, I highly doubt this. Do you have any proof whatsoever?

Those guys are ready to drive you crazy, haha.

Well, I need to know whether you are a junior or a senior. If application deadlines have not arrive yet: Junior: 30% of landing an interview (remember that you will need to network at some point); lower at MM Banks Senior: 5% at BB, and more than 30% at MM Banks

You GPA is good. I don't think your lack of experience matters much. Your school is not good. Your SAT scores matter a lot too, if you have over 2200, you can increase those percentages by 10 points
