Changing your grad date on job search websites
I'm using my campus website to search for IB job postings. Most of the jobs require you to graduate in 2011. Since I am only a sophomore (2012), I am not allowed to submit my resume. But, I can easily go to the profile section and change my graduation date to 2011 so I can apply to these jobs. Is this deception? Will recruiters look down on me if on my resume my graduation date remains 2012, but I applied for a "juniors only" job?
They put those requirements because that is specifically what they are looking for. Most likely they will can your resume. Now I am not saying you necessarily shouldn't do it, just saying you are going to have to follow up you resume with solid networking. This issue happens a lot when OCR jobs have GPA requirements. Sometimes you have to circumvent the system in order to get your resume looked at.
If the job is for Juniors you aren't going to get it as a Sophomore. I don't see what is complicated about this

Bud, The problem isn't about whether or not I get the job, but more about whether it is considered deceptive or underhanded to apply for a job this way. I don't want to get a bad rep for recruiting next year.
Oh and a few of my friends in consulting did this with "2011 only" jobs and have received interviews.
Here is a perfect example, until recently Villanova did not have a separate MSF designation so we all had to put some random things down on the schools career website (this has now been changed) so I would apply for MBA positions as well as undergrad positions. Along with the school resume drop there would usually be an HR contact or something. I would apply online and contact the recruiter explaining the situation. Never had a bad response.
If you are a sophomore student with junior standing, you should be fine. Otherwise, you are basically lying. I don't like the word "deceptive". Some HR hate it and will get you in trouble the next time you apply (one of my friends got fucked up by a BB doing the exact same shit), other HR does not really care.
