first round phone interviews - CITI IBD

Hey everyone,

I have just been scheduled to complete a first round phone interview with the IBD at Citi. Any advice, questions to expect etc? Are typical phone interviews technical or more behavioral/walk me through your resume? First time doing this for IBD so any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

Just be yourself man. The guys interviewing you at Citi just want to make sure you're competent, which I'm sure you are in you got the interview, and easy to talk to. At the end of the day people want to hire people that they want to work with, not necessarily the kid with the highest SAT score.

I had two interview with BBs for Cap Markets role one for debt and one for equity. There will obviously be questions about markets and some basic valuation questions. I did not get any very detailed accounting questions or super technical questions like you see in typical IB groups such as M&A or any other product groups.

I already applied for and got denied by Citi for IB position for graduates. I think it's closed now. From what I've read on here, they aren't looking to hire a lot of people applying online for FT since they recruited 90% of their SA class.

Hmm for questions at the end, make sure to ask them how they are performing. They will be excited to tell you their new firm strategy!

Yo dude, their gonna ask you tech. Know your vault guide inside and out. Know why you use certain things in certain places when your doing a DCF, etc. I've interviewed with over 20+ BB/MM/Boutiques the past couple of weeks.

Just wondering who else has heard from Citi? I don't come from a target school, but I work for a past/current MD there who fwded my resume. E-mailed the recruiting lady but she still hasn't responded yet.

My school didn't have the Superday for SA. (only a 2 to1, 30-min interview on campus) They wanted us to walk them through DCF and the 3 financial statements.
Also, the discount rate used in DCF analysis is higher or lower in India compared to the US, and how the 3 statements link together. Hope this helps.
