College Essay Help
For college supplemental essays(undergrad), do I write about my interest in finance and working on Wall Street as a banker or will admissions officers view me in a negative light? I know that people in finance have a bad reputation for being greedy and only focused on money.
Thanks for the help
Edit:
I'm not talking about my main college essay, I'm talking about the questions that are asked by individual schools like "What do you want to major in and why" and "Why is our school a good fit for you".
Lol don’t write a college essay about wanting to be a banker
I wouldn’t unless you’re a finance hardo. Your essay gives the admissions officer a bit of insight into who you are as a person. I wrote my common app essay on checking for lambs at 3am while living at a farm lol. My supplements were about cereal walls and playing tag.
To respond to your edit, don’t do that either. What do you want to major in? Say Econ and that you want to do research because you have a love for the subject and want to go into academic research in the field OR finance because you want to create/work with micro finance programs in 3rd world countries or financial literacy advocacy nonprofits in inner cities to promote social mobility. All depends on which school.
Absolutely do not say you want to be a banker in your essays lmao. They know you want to do something like that but you can’t just say it flat out. Kind of like how you can’t answer “why IB?” with “money” in interviews. It’s true but you cant just say it.
I wrote my college essay about how I wanted to be a doctor my whole life and work with Doctors Without Boarders and help people in need all over the world. On my first day of college I switched my major to Econ.
"Boarders" lol ok
Feel free to write about what you do.
Feel free to write about what you do. You are who you are, and it doesn't matter what the committee thinks. What do they care if you're a banker or a janitor? I think the most important thing is to show your knowledge. Surprise them by writing an essay without mistakes, with the right amount of words, and easy to read. Then they will be satisfied and will not pay much attention to the topic of the essay. When I was in college, wordcounter.ai always helped me with this. It was an indispensable tool for me. I could write any article perfectly. This tool contains many features that can help anyone.
In fact, you have chosen a very interesting topic.
Were you able to finish everything and what was the result?
I think you should write a topic about your goals in the future.
Oh, i was here!)
Thanks for the help.
Interesting information, I have been studying for a long time and have written a lot of written works, but I have to agree that you always discover something new and interesting. Thanks to my experience, I can now write with ease, but this has not always been the case. There was also something that I had to use services like coursework help, because at that time it was not possible to write really decent essays.
Do not write anything ab banking/money/passion anything like that. Not even kidding this isnt a troll post but pick any random object you see in your room or house or neighborhood and spend hours revising it to make it sounds super sophisticated and make it seem like ur passionate about that story. Basically circle around a point using large vocabulary and meaningless words to make it seem like artistic writing until you dont even know what the fuck it means.

Only do this if you're good at writing and have the intuition and instinct to recognize when something is written well and actually works... I've seen people who attempt to be quirky but aren't self-conscious enough to realize when their essay is a complete mess. If you aren't good at writing, or if you've never written creatively before, you're better off sticking with the basics and writing a polished essay about an experience or character trait that highlights something positive
But I agree with the first part of your comment: if you're aiming for top schools, never, ever write anything remotely preprofessional in a college essay, unless it's about medicine/public interest law/social justice related careers. This might be different for state schools but I wouldn't know as I never applied to any
Why are you on an online forum dedicated to financial professionals as a HIGH SCHOOLER? Go enjoy life for 4 years kid, then come back.
Maybe write about how you want to be an entrepreneur if you have some interests or something but I’m totally just spitballing. Showing you’re motivated, different and creative to an extent is a good thing I’m sure.
But I like the idea of answering that question of what do you want to major by tying it to a set of possible careers you could do in the future for it. A lot of “Emily’s” simply write in and say they want to study art because it’s interesting, I’m really not up to date on the college essay trends though.
It's relevant for me
To respond to your edits, when you are asked, "Why is our school a good fit for you"; you should first know why they are asking this question. They want to learn more about your decision-making process. They want to know how you made your choice and the factors important to you. So, you stay positive and share your priorities. You can show your applied knowledge to support your answer to "What do you want to major in and why".
