Did any Americans here got to B-School in the UK or Europe?

What led you overseas?. Did you land a job there? Where you able to work to finance part of the program? Any regrets?

Would it be the same experience now that Brexit happened?

LBS or INSEAD?

Bump. Also, are dual/joint degrees common in Europe? MBA+JD/etc. is offered at a lot of programs in the US, but doesn’t seem as common in the EU?

I'm sorry if I'm hijacking here, but I'm going to ask the opposite question:

Who's been successful WITHOUT B-school?

In AM an MBA seems more of an exception than the rule.  I know exponentially more CFA charterholders than MBAs. Heck, I think I know more people with masters degrees in financial math than MBAs.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Phat

You'll need to define what you mean succesful without and MBA.

I think that it's very industry specific.  The lead PM of our largest mutual fund has his CFA Charter, but no MBA. He brings in > $500m/yr for the firm and rumor has it that he makes more than the CEO.  There are a number of other fund PMs in the same boat.

I know someone that got an MBA from Oxford Said.......he's been having a very tough time gaining traction in the US. He advises against it if you plan on getting a job in IB/PE/HF in the US. Gold standard in other parts of the world.

Very Risky Move. Before you pull the trigger on that I would look carefully into recruitment for firms you are interested in. Its a bit (not completely) different over there. For example, don't be shocked to see see kids from Birmingham University or Aston University end up at Rothschild or Goldman. LBS is a great school but if I remember right their grads tend to end up in different areas for the most part.

Their process is very strongly geared towards the applications, and testing. School def helps. But reason il say be careful is don't assume you can apply to both US and UK graduate programs.

When I went through the process. I was boxed out of a few firms like JP Morgan and DB sent immediate rejections citing they were not issuing visas ( was studying the year brexit was announced). Unfortunately, while I a US citizen, JP Morgan's application for the US graduate programs requires a US degree. So I essentially wasn't eligible for either.

When I went I had a great time, but I was boxed out of most programs. I am sure they did still give out visas, just no where near as many as usual.  I had a lot of applications come back immediately as soon as i mention requiring sponsorship (pwc, ey, jpm, rothschild).
