Dinner with a CEO or date with a tv star/model?

Long story short: A long, long time ago when I was trying to break into Investment Banking I was invited to have dinner with the CEO of a well known boutique bank.

Through my social circle, a distant friend was friends with a reality TV star/model. This model asked me out on a date. She wanted me to be her plus one at a party and then see how things progress between us. There were many celebrities in attendance at this party. This party was taking place on the same evening as the dinner.

Which option would you have taken, dinner with the CEO or date with the model?

Take the CEO dinner, every time.

Honestly, while both are hard to come by, I think the date with the celebrity would be much more memorable of an experience. You can apply to many different banks, interview, and get an offer (much easier said than done albeit). You don't need the CEO of the company to vouch for you to get an offer at his/her bank.

A night where you could see a lot of celebrities, hang out with them, and feel special is something you might never be invited to again. Also, how cool would it be to say to someone that you met and talked with several celebrities in person? Saying you had a dinner with a CEO whose name not many people would know would not be able to compete.

At the same time, this is more of a battle between the social aspect of your life and the career aspect of your life. If you really want a job, then 100% go for the CEO dinner. If you are confident that you can get a job at another bank without knowing the CEO of a bank, then go for the date.
