Does a risk management internship at a Big 4 (freshman year) fit into pursuing an asset management career?

Title sums it up. Looking at internship opportunities after freshman year, and had the opportunity to do a risk management internship at a Big 4. Does this internship fit into the track of pursuing an asset management career? (aiming for the sky: BlackRock). I'm based in the UK if thats of any use.

Thanks for the rep. I'm just scared of being labeled as a risk/quant type of guy resulting into a closure of opportunities in other financial areas that interest me (HF/AM/PE/VC/IBD) since I'm not exactly sure where I want to go yet. I guess its a fear of being to niche (?). Do you think it would help me in getting future internships in those sectors or would it just be a minor plus?

What school do you go to (don't say the exact name, but like H/Y/P type?) and what are your past credentials, i.e. GPA/clubs/leadership/etc? My end-goal in college is Big 4 internship and it's really impressive you got an internship there freshman summer, just was curious what your qualifications were

Guys/Girls,

Take a second and breathe. ANY internship experience freshman year is good experience. No one is going to "label you" for what you did for 8 weeks during the summer when you were 19. Having any internship is great and shows your desire to work hard and learn. That, alongside your grades and personality/fit, are what will put you in a position to get the internship and eventual job you want as a sophomore/junior/graduate.

Enjoy yourself and enjoy your summers when you still can.

Just my .02.

risk management at EY is a great internship freshman year dude even if it was audit it'd be fine

the fact that you were actually doing anything your freshman summer is a +, add in that it's a brand name place, and sophomore recruiting should be solid.

FWIW, ik someone who did Audit Intern at Big 4 freshman year -> quant hedge fund soph intern -> bridgewater investment analyst junior intern -> blackrock FT, at a strong semi-target
