Has everything to do with "the industry of VC". SQ1 is a bank that caters to start-up firms and partners with VC firms to provide venture debt, often including warrants into their deals. HQ is in Durham, NC and is a pretty cool place to work with a lot of VC/IB industry veterans as well as a sharp analyst group comprised mostly of 20-somethings from the best schools in the southeast. The firm also has regional offices located in all of the major tech/life science start-up cities. Send me a message if you desire any specific answers. I am a former employee but still know a lot of people there. I left to pursue an opportunity outside of VC/banking.

I don't have much to add to my post, but it all depends on what group you're interviewing with. It has been a few years since I worked at Square 1 and I'm not sure if or how the culture has changed since the company went public and then merged with Pac West. Be comfortable discussing your "story" numerous times, what attracts you to startups and venture debt, and be able to walk someone through financial statements.

Thank you for the advice! I was told that I will be interviewing with 10 portfolio analysts. I came from healthcare, and didn't have much background in finance. So, it's kind of nerve-racking.
