Exercising from home during a Quarantine

Hi all, as I'm being quarantined in my home country for the next 2+ weeks and already starting to feel in need of any sport, how do you guys work out / maintain shape from home (no machines, free weights). Have been doing push ups but would like to vary.

Cheers,

Hand stand up push ups. Anything less is for weaklings

Hand stand pushups are good. Even just holding that pose is highly beneficial. But, for many the required shoulder strength is too much. But, one can use other things like a chair or the top of a couch to put their feet for added difficulty.

A friend forwarded this from some pro coach & former athlete:

"Situation: 1. Maintain or build strength 2. Stay sane 3. No equipment

How to do: 1. Slow, smooth and deliberate motions (no faster than 3 seconds in each direction) 2. Full range of motion to the limits of your current range 3. Do it with great posture

What to do: 3 set of 10 reps each

  • Squats – no weight, or grab any heavy object(s) to add weight. Gallon of maple syrup, growler of beer… If there is only ONE thing you do, it is squats!
  • Pushups
  • Back extension – on hands and knees, extend right leg and left arm out, back to center, then left leg and right leg out, back to center. Repeat x10
  • Chair/coffee table dips
  • Back raises, also called super(wo)man’s
  • High Knees, slowly
  • Lunges – to the front, to the side, and backwards
  • One leg squat – be careful, this is hard! Do only if regular squats are easy for you, and start with the foot off the ground lightly balanced on a coffee table behind you
  • Front plank
  • Side plank
  • Back plank – on your elbows or hands, with belly towards ceiling
  • Hip lift, also known as a bridge
  • Calf raises

Remember, do these slowly and deliberately for maximum impact!"

my former instructor has a book on bodyweight exercises:

My favorites are 8 count bodybuilders, flutter kicks, scissor kicks, elbow to fist planking. Air chair is good. Mountain climbers will get you shredded if you can hang on and just keep doing them with good form. Pushups. Diamond pushups. Lunges are good - Iron Mikes are better. Also, if you have 2-5lb weights, shadowboxing.
