You aim to switch to IB or PE? It’s not the same thing especially if you join a smaller fund where you are involved on investment from A to Z it can be extremely helpful. Here’s how I’d pitch my profile in your shoes for a PE fund: perfect skilled thanks to both deal execution capabilities (built through TAS experience), value creation skills (management consulting) and relationship management with investors skills (WM). As for IB you can spin it: skills in relationship management (WM), client servicing (consulting) and transaction execution experience (TAS). Consider I work in PE so am a bit out of the IB standpoint. However, it’s not an impossible move. The only thing I’d be worried of is the fact that you’re risking to be perceived old so at least at larger firms it’s harder to be hired. For smaller businesses, everything is possible (know a guy hired as senior M&A analyst at 2nd tier boutique at the age of 36). The point is that as you get out of the typical “cycle logic” of IB to PE path (which works in the US and for junior levels), it boils down to what the team of the fund/bank really needs. They can need someone strong in enterprise improvement to tightly work with C-suite of the invested companies as well as someone with a solid network to enhance the deal flow.
