Fair compensation for Aso 1
2nd year analyst at a BB, recently received an offer from a MM / UMM PE firm next year. What's considered market comp for a role like this? Understand there is wide variation but wanted to get some data points. Offer is all-in ~280k expected, no co-invest or minuscule amount of carry or anything. Not NYC (Chicago / SF / LA).
Seems about right
that's honestly above market
Got it, was just wondering if it was normal to trade-off slightly higher cash comp for no carry / co-invest -- part of the reason I joined this fund was for the potential to participate in the upside but perhaps it just comes at a slightly higher level. Wasn't sure what normal cash comp is in NYC / SF / LA / Chicago for funds like this (1-5bn fund size range, sector focus) but have heard of peers at 300k+ at the high end and 240k on the lower end
Carry shouldn't really be expected at the associate level. If you stay on as senior associate/VP then you should definitely get carry. $280k sounds about market as well.
Take the cash comp as an associate. Huge chance you won’t be at this fund long enough for the carry to matter
That's in line. Average to slightly above cash comp. Don't expect meaningful carry at Aso lvl
that's market for nyc, above market for lower cost city
