Final round buyside interview
So I had a rly good final round with case study with the partners. Reception was very positive: they asked abt when I expected comp, when I would be able to start, and if I was talking to other shops. They said they were hiring for 2-3 jr positions, and that they expect start date to be within a month or so and so they’ll be in their new offices by then. They told me they’d get back to me within a week, which they did (less than a wk later).
Got an email from the partner saying they enjoyed meeting with me and if I had time to chat the next week. Tossed out a few dates which unfortunately didn’t work, and the partner said “gimme your cell. I’ll call you at this time on Saturday.” Sounds positive right?
Well, I also found out that someone already received an offer from them and is planning to start with them in a month. Don’t know exactly when that person got the offer (may have been this wk or last week), but now I’m starting to think my phone call with the partner this coming weekend isn’t going to be so great all of a sudden.
Who calls on a weekend just to tell someone they got rejected and on top of that, drags out the entire process for 2 weeks??? And on top of that, why doesn’t he or she just tell me that I was rejected either by email or immediately as to put me out of my misery???
Thoughts?
Partner isn't going to take time out of your weekend to say "hey sorry we're going in another direction"
Also - 2 weeks for a interview process is one of the quickest I have ever heard of.
thx for the response. Makes sense. We were originally going to talk tomorrow but no times worked...could it also be possible that they liked me a lot but had to go with other candidates, but felt the need to set aside time for a phone call to answers q’s, provide feedback, or maybe refer me to some other companies they know?
Of course it's possible.
They may be extending an offer
They may be rejecting you
They may be saying "hey we need another week"
They may want to ask you more questions before even making any of the descisions above
Although it's corny, but only focus on the circumstances you can control. You know you have the phone call, make sure you're prepared to handle appropriately, any of the topics above.
gonna say positive indication.
Or the partner thinks you're cute and invited you over for a little..
In a previous recruiting experience, I was given an offer during a phone call on a Saturday morning. I have no idea what this firm is, but think about if you were the partner. Are you going to call up this candidate on a Saturday (presumably your day off) just to tell them they didn't get the job? I give that about a 2% likelihood. I would be anticipating an offer, while remaining prepared for any further questions they have.
Hm....he never called today. What.the.fuck.
Did you not send him an email after the first half an hour asking if he'd need to reschedule, or just call him on your own?
No, I didn’t. I was thinking I’d give him until the end of the day because something came up bc it’s the wknd, but was shocked he never called. Maybe he forgot since we didn’t put anything on the calendar and this was discussed this past Tuesday. I am planning on sending an email tonight just say if he still wanted to chat. At this point it doesn’t seem like a positive outcome, oh well.
I called him today. I got the offer! He just wanted to discuss details so that I was fully aware of the terms before joining.
Good job OP. This has been an emotional rolllercoaster
