first round phone interviews - CITI IBD
Hey everyone,
I have just been scheduled to complete a first round phone interview with the IBD at Citi. Any advice, questions to expect etc? Are typical phone interviews technical or more behavioral/walk me through your resume? First time doing this for IBD so any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
Just be yourself man. The guys interviewing you at Citi just want to make sure you're competent, which I'm sure you are in you got the interview, and easy to talk to. At the end of the day people want to hire people that they want to work with, not necessarily the kid with the highest SAT score.

I had a phone interview today. Anybody know when we can expect to hear back?
Which office?
Sorry, NYC IBD. Also non-core if that matters.
They have already given out super day invitations for December, which is this Friday. If they haven't contacted you they may either be inviting you to their January super day or not at all.
Citi Capital Markets Interviews (Originally Posted: 09/12/2012)
Heyo WSO, I'm back on the recruitment grind and lets just say its not looking so hot right now...we barely have any firms back. I just got an interview with Citi capital markets coming up in about 2 weeks and was wondering what type of stuff should I study for the interview.
I have the M&I guide, do I need anything else? Also what would be a good group to gun for in Citi capital markets?
Thanks, Kmonkeyt
I had two interview with BBs for Cap Markets role one for debt and one for equity. There will obviously be questions about markets and some basic valuation questions. I did not get any very detailed accounting questions or super technical questions like you see in typical IB groups such as M&A or any other product groups.
I'm interested as well.
I have an interview with Citi coming up as well, in the energy group. Not sure what to expect.
What type of questions on the markets did you get asked?
These are for full time right?

Anyone know? I had a first round and it was all behaviorial so i have no idea what to expect now is it all about fit? i heard Citi is big on fit and behaviorials.
i got a question for you:
Q. is IBD recruiting for the analyst class over already? I mean school hasn't even started...
nah this is just in advance i'm asking past years
Citi conducted first-round already? Are you doing accelerated interview for SA who has exploding offer or something?
funny thing though, i've been looking on their website (btw worst website ever) and can't find any open positions in IB...Citi needs to fix their website!
I already applied for and got denied by Citi for IB position for graduates. I think it's closed now. From what I've read on here, they aren't looking to hire a lot of people applying online for FT since they recruited 90% of their SA class.
wow! that kinda sucks, considering the fact that Citi usually hires a boat load of people every year.
Yea, like I said, they did heavy recruitment from SAs across all divisions.
their online app opens September 1st
Yea only two S&T summers didn't get offers.
if Citi hires a boatload of ppl it seems they have low standards.
i also like know what interview r like

Could anyone shed some light on Citi's first round interview? It's for IBD in NYC. I thought it was weird they are having first rounds on site instead of over the phone.
Is this SA or FT? I'm guessing SA since they're pretty much done with FT. 1st round is mostly behavioral. They'll ask you questions to see if you're a fit for the company. Strengths, weaknesses, motivation, leadership abilities. They'll also ask you some sort of valuation question (well they did for me).
It's for SA. Is it just a one one one 30 min interview?
Hmm for questions at the end, make sure to ask them how they are performing. They will be excited to tell you their new firm strategy!
Anyone else?
Which school are you from gobig?
Your interview is this friday right?
Yo dude, their gonna ask you tech. Know your vault guide inside and out. Know why you use certain things in certain places when your doing a DCF, etc. I've interviewed with over 20+ BB/MM/Boutiques the past couple of weeks.
Just wondering who else has heard from Citi? I don't come from a target school, but I work for a past/current MD there who fwded my resume. E-mailed the recruiting lady but she still hasn't responded yet.
I'll be there.
Nevermind, get the confirmation. Good luck everyone
Any of you guys hear back from this yet?
How did it go for everyone?
Pretty good. Just wondering, how technical was your interview?
Meh. Thought I had a good interview with the associate and a crappy one with the analyst. Interview with Associate was more fit, interview with analyst more tech
I have mine coming up in a few days so we'll see.
anyone hear back?
bumpp
They sent out final round invites this morning.
Got the Super Day. See you all next Friday.
My school didn't have the Superday for SA. (only a 2 to1, 30-min interview on campus) They wanted us to walk them through DCF and the 3 financial statements.
Also, the discount rate used in DCF analysis is higher or lower in India compared to the US, and how the 3 statements link together. Hope this helps.
