For those of you in FP&A, what are your hours?

As I’m sitting here with another 3 hours of work left, I’m wondering what are your hours for those of you in FP&A? I’m usually 9-5:30/6 but after close I’m usually 9-7/8. We’ve moved systems and it’s been a disaster so I’m having to build all of our reports from scratch in basically a 36 hour turnaround window. Accounting is “closed” but not actually closed because the data keeps fucking changing every time I refresh a report so I barely have an idea what the true numbers should be. This is the third month where our monthly reporting package is completely fucked and I’m working until 2am to fix it.

I used to be in FP&A / strategic finance. My hours were pretty good from 8 to 4 and tbh a lot of that was just messing around after my work was finished.

That being said when busy I'd say other groups did 8 to 6 if not later depending on the work. A lot of that though was moreso a result of poor management as well as peers not being as efficient at completing work (e.g., using ppt and excel shortcuts). If the heavy hours continue and you've been there a while, I'd consider switching elsewhere - if your busy b/c there's a lot of meaningful work that's one thing, but being busy b/c of organizational / process pitfalls multiple times in a row is ridiculous.

Have spent time at multiple, large companies. All have been 9-5/5:30. Couple hours of work at night a few times a month, but has always been fine to finish at home as opposed to staying in the office. High amount of focus and communication with my boss/team around what's important and a priority, as opposed to feeling like everything needs to be done immediately. Done in the right way and with the right team, will make for a great balance and won't sacrifice reputation or upward mobility.

I stay online/available from 8:30 to 4:30, give or take 30mins on each side. How much time am I actually busy? probably 3-4 hours a day. Some days I'm busy the whole time, but I've gotten rid of a lot of manual processes in my reports and it's freed up a lot of time.

It makes me feel kinda bad- 3-4 hours a day, no nights or weekends, should land at $104k this year as a Senior Analyst in a midwest city like KC/Indy/Columbus
