Freshman Internship

Looking for some advice in finding some work this summer. I am located in NYC, and honestly will do ANYTHING to get my foot in the door and some experience for a resume. I am a freshman at Fordham, and have applied to close to 100 banks, small firms, VC firms, start ups, etc. I have only applied from Handshake and recommendations from connections in the field. I haven't tried LinkedIn yet, should I? I want to find more smaller banks where I could maybe have a conversation with a MD and maybe talk my way into an internship. How would you guys go about this? Thanks!
