Hi guys: Before you join a fund, what have you found to be the best way to diligence the fund’s culture please? I know the standard contacting current/former employees route, but often people are more willing to say nice things and omit what’s challenging (and it makes sense for their incentives). What are some ways you’ve found to get a deeper sense of the fund’s culture? Thank you

Depends on what you do, but if you are in banking, why not look up what deals the PE shop was in beforehand? Maybe contact someone in one of the portfolio companies (through a connection of course, from banking, or college or whatever). Another idea is to ask any friends or connections of yours who are in the asset allocator space. These folks meet with everyone and so may be able to give you some insight into these folks and as a comparison to how they are compared to other PE shops. Hopefully those are some ideas. Good Luck
