I’ve been there but I would recommend saving that and treating your parents once you get your first real bonus (post 1st year). You’ll be in a better position financially (I hope) and will have the cash to treat them to something special. I did this for my parents post bonus and treated them to a fully paid vacation. Just my $0.02

 

I second the above poster. Your signing bonus is basically a relocation bonus and you’ll likely need to use most of it post-tax and withholding to pay for security deposits, some work clothes, and food, among other required expenses. If there’s some left over then maybe think about spending that but your full year bonus is going to be much bigger and you’ll also have a few months of salary under your belt.
