Goldman Sachs Virtual Insight Series
Being that I was ineligible for all diversity events, I registered for the Goldman Sachs Virtual Insight Series, which seems to be a virtual networking event. I just received the e-mail for the HireVue, with one question in a separate e-mail.
The main e-mail says the interview length is around 10 minutes, while the other e-mail says the question is 2 minutes. Will there be other questions on top of the one in the e-mail?
Has anyone been in this program before? Is it even slightly useful? If they do select me for this virtual tour, is that the kind of thing I should put on my resume when looking for an actual internship.
I am a sophomore at a Canadian semi-target.
GS Virtual Insight Series: Goldman Sachs Exploratory Program

The Goldman Sachs Virtual Insight Series is a popular student program designed to help prospective GS employees learn more about the firm and interview process. Per GS, you will be able to “experience the learning and networking opportunities of our in-person camps from your own mobile device through this multi-day, flexible hour live learning series.” You can gain exposure to multiple career paths and build the skills you need to successfully interview for the prestigious bank.
One WSO community member @777new" , who went through the program explains:
The program is very helpful. It lets you know how you need to prepare for interviews for internships etc. It also tries to develop your "relationship" building skills over networking. Lots of professional skill building and stuff like that. Quite general. Probably helped in demonstrating interest and good to pop into your "why GS" answers, but you could find all the info they give you on their website or WSO.
Event has (there was more, here are a few things that I remember)
- practice hirevue
- kick off calls/recruiting webinars with HR
- informational calls with analysts/associates/VPs in several different divisions (not one on on, more of a conference format with Q&A)
- resume and interview office hours
- Most of the events last year were either after hours or do on your own time, and everything was optional
- There were also like 5-6 options to attend each event

Preparing for investment banking interviews?
The WSO investment banking interview course is designed by countless professionals with real world experience, tailored to people aspiring to break into the industry. This guide will help you learn how to answer these questions and many, many more.
I was selected for the hirevue interview as well, but for a diversity cornerstone event. To my knowledge it is only for that one question that they answer.
What is the insight series like?
Also wondering the same thing. What is the interview question and what exactly does this insight series provide?
bump
I also got in. Pretty sure they invite practically anyone, and it's just a virtual presentation with a chat box kind of deal. Really not useful beyond saying that you went to it, and heard insert name speak about ...
I had a practice interview on hirevue for GS that was 10 minutes and then my real interview was one question which was about 2 minutes.
Hi, do you mind sharing what the interview question is? Thank you!!
Hi! how did the program go for you? did you get an offer?:)
Just got the invite as well for the virtual insight series. The event page says it is invite only and that I shouldn't forward to anyone who is not registered for it. Does that mean that this is a selective event?
I got this as well but I never applied to it... it seems to be a multi-event/webcast type of program for a couple of weeks.
It is selective. That is what the recruitment division told us at the undergraduate camp.
The program is very helpful. It lets you know how you need to prepare for interviews for internships etc. It also tries to develop your "relationship" building skills over networking.
Is this program selective-- I got invited, but I didn't apply? Also, can anyone tell me more about it. From what fellow monkeys are saying its like a network builder/ learn about the firm type thing?
^ likewise. Did you participate in one of the diversity programs they had this spring?
I also think this insight series is different from the one you can apply to (along with undergrad camp, etc.) which seems to be a one day virtual event.
Hey! No I did not. Although, Goldman had a networking event at my school called "2017 Goldman Sachs Symposium" that I attended/got invited to.
I got an invitation for it two weeks ago and my registration deadline was 5/14 or something around there. Seems like they sent out a second wave of registrations for students who did Undergraduate Camp? I think everyone who attended some sort of diversity programming this semester (the women's event, the LGBT event, or Undergraduate Camp) got an invite.
Did anyone get in without having registered for a diversity event? I was actually rejected from this. I might be the only one who didn't get in.
Same here—did you ever figure out why?
Has any one whose done the Virtual Insight Series and has already applied received a Hireview yet for what ever division
Yes
Anyone know what to expect from the Hirevue I just got the invite, and was wondering what type of question it might be.
wondering the same
Anyone get news within the last 2 weeks if they got it?
Thanks
I just got an acceptance into it
Same, hoping it is helpful it some way or another.
lol same! i think they just put all the rejects of the in-person programs into the virtual series.. not sure what an 'extraordinarily accomplished and academically talented group of applicants' we actually are lol. and curious if it will help us in any ways in the upcoming gs recruiting cycle
for those who have done it before - what do we actually do?
I did it last year. Got a GS offer this year in the early period but did not take it.
Event has (there was more, here are a few things that I remember) - practice hirevue - kick off calls/recruiting webinars with HR - informational calls with analysts/associates/VPs in several different divisions (not one on on, more of a conference format with Q&A) - resume and interview office hours
Lots of professional skill building and stuff like that. Quite general. Probably helped in demonstrating interest and good to pop into your "why GS" answers, but you could find all the info they give you on their website or WSO.
do you think this event helped you with GS or did you come from a target/do a lot of networking
Got accepted, is this actually as selective as they say and I'm not diversity either....Anyone have any info on the program or anything in general lol
does this put you on the pipeline for GS's normal recruiting cycle?
Event starts June 4th Monday at 9AM. What happens if most of us have internships from Mon-Fri working the 9-5pm? Is this something worth getting out of work for?
Most of the events last year were either after hours or do on your own time, and everything was optional (there were probably 30 events all in) so don't feel bad if one doesn't work for your schedule.
There were also like 5-6 options to attend each event - so the 9am might be a kickoff call, but they'll have a bunch of kickoff calls at different times throughout the week. Don't ditch work for it.
are most of the kickoff calls between 9-5 or would you say a good portion were after 5?
A bunch, maybe majority, were 6/7/8 pm. I just went through my emails and I went to a good number of events at 7-8 EST, including a 7pm kickoff call. I don't think anything will ever be 9-5 only with no after-hours options, they stress flexibility with this program.
Also some events including the kickoff call are video (video ones were indicated by use of the BlueJeans platform last year) so either turn off your video or make sure you're not wearing pajamas lol
Good luck, have fun with it!
Did anyone get any rejections? I haven't received an email yet
same here. I probably got rejected... :-( not sure why, though. My friends all got in and I have better GPA with roughly the same ECs....
Has everyone received login details ? email or Phone? Does it start at 9am EST or your own timezone? Thanks!!!
Haven't received anything and I'm in EST
received anything yet?
has anyone else still not received anything yet? its 9:10am over here and i have yet to receive an email.
received anything yet?
nope... its 957am now, getting a bit concerned haha
If anyone received anything or can access the virtual series please comment and let us know? Thanks!!!
I also am part of the Virtual Insight Series and did not receive an email since I was initially accepted
I'm guessing there have been no events yet?
Bit late to the thread as it is 1:55 pm EST over here but I haven't heard anything about login/access details yet.
Does anyone know a phone number or email address that we can send and enquiry to? I also didn’t get the link and there seems to be no clear way to communicate with the organizer.
I also see no person to reach out too. There is no email or anything
Do you have any ideas about what to do? I emailed a couple of generic GS customer service and recruiting emails but haven't had a reply. I don't want to let this whole insight series go by...
Yeah I understand what you are saying. I have a feeling that they may just be behind or something. Im going to spend more time today looking for someone to email
On GS.com it is also no longer showing that I RSVP'ed yes for the event. Not sure if that is a big deal or not though
says the same for me... no RSVP
anybody get anything???
oh nvm I actually just got the first email
same
Could someone on the 8pm session PM me the link to the webinar? I register for the event but never received the login info
Hey, this same thing happened to me! I signed up for the 8 pm and never got the email. I reached out to Goldman this morning to try to figure out why I did not get an email.
I attended the webinar yesterday - does anybody know the next steps?
They are going to send weekly emails to set up events
Can anyone who participated in this series last year speak to how much/if it increases your chances of receiving a superday if you don't completely bomb the HireVue?
Bump
I barely got the acceptance email today. No further instructions were emailed after I RSVPed
they mentioned in their first email that we would complete a survey by 10 Jun... anyone received anything like that?
I sent them an email about it this afternoon and they just sent me the survey link
okay it was in the junk.
Does anyone know when the actual work will start coming, I received the survey but I'm a little confused on why we haven't started doing anything yet.
Just received my survey yesterday it was quick. They will have an event tonight at 8PM
Were you able to register for the event? I could not locate the 'register' button on the site for tonight's event.
I was not, I'm sure they send a link soon
Tonight's event is just the same as last week too right? This is just for people who missed the same 'Getting to Goldman' event if I'm not mistaken?
Yeah it is. I don't know about you all but every time I try to register, the page just says there is an error.
Is there a link to it? or how will we access it?
No tonight is Resume development
No, that's is tomorrow and Thursday. All on the schedule for today is 'Getting to Goldman 1' a repeat of last week's program
Has anyone received instruction for tonight's event?
not yet
was anyone able to register for the resume events? i could not find the register button.
same here. when i click on the times it brings me to a nonexisting page
anyone able to sign up for the 8pm EST resume hours event for tonight 6/14? i'm not able to register
No I haven't either, this is just one big mess
factsss bruhhh
anything??? the time has passed for all?
Has anyone been able to do any webinars? I haven't received anything since the survey links last week
Did anyone else get a Hireview today?
Bump. I'm wondering if it will count towards actual applications or if it is strictly practice. Obviously everything should be treated like an interview, but I'm curious
yeah the email calls it a "mock hirevue" so strictly just practice
Yeah, it's practice though. The real one will probably come out in the next week or so
