Having a call about a Growth equity role, a more senior role came up. How do I bring this up in the process?

Hi All,

I got an intro to a partner/MD at a growth equity group, for a principal role they’re hiring for specific to their office. However, just recently, the same group (different office, but supposedly they all work closely together) is looking for a sr principal.

Going by the description (yrs exp) of the Principal role (and just looking at some bios of that firm), and what I’ve heard from a few people outside of the firm (but have familiarity with them), I am probably much closer to a new sr principal vs being a principal there. Also, I recall that my yrs exp / general work exp does line up with this group’s prior sr principal postings. Though this recent one interestingly doesn’t highlight # of yrs exp.

I was wondering how I should best broach this topic. I feel like bringing this up in my very first intro call with a Partner hiring specifically for principal may not be the best time. And that perhaps I should bring it up only later into the process (provided I advance beyond the intro).

Wanted to see if anyone has had to deal with something similar, and how did they go about it during their process.

Pinging a few seasoned folks that know this general space off the top of my head: APAE mrharveyspecter CompBanker throaway92

But welcome others for their thoughts. Thanks all!
