Hi all,
I am a first year analyst in the healthcare group (Pharma & Biotech) at a bank in New York. As many of you know/have experienced, buyside recruiting is starting to get underway and I am curious if anyone has a list of healthcare focused hedge funds? Or if anyone knows any off the top of their head? I am particularly focused on hedge fund recruiting, but I am really only interested in funds that are specifically healthcare focused/have a large healthcare focus.

orbimed is the best at 10b aum
Glenview isn't healthcare per se, but they've made a killing the last couple years off their healthcare/biotech picks.
Glenview does everything but healthcare is huge there. Visium is also big. There is one fund in particular that is famous for being really good at biotech, their name escapes me at the moment. Look at the top 10 holders list for some biotech stocks that have done well over the past 24 months, see which names come up often.

Palo Alto is a pretty good one, but they might be closed.

SAC Capital :) I heard they made a pretty good bet on healthcare stocks...
slowdive you are probably referring to the baker brothers... they have absolutely killed it and are well respected because they take concentrated positions relative to other funds.

Check Bloomberg. Also, not too sure if targeting only healthcare specific funds is a good idea.
In times of difficulties you don't want to be an analyst that struggles to move around due to lack of other sector experience. Fact is, healthcare is wide with decent opportunities but so much more enjoyable to look at something like retail and consumer etc (not as difficult as well). My PM hired a guy primarily to look at TMT but slowly started giving him more sectors to look at and the analyst seemed quite pleased.
Few places don't advertise sector specific funds on their websites but usually have a pair managing some 100m (know this from a guy who does this). Use head hunters. Your market buddies will be able to give great insights as they are the ones speaking with clients.

The only thing I could have mentioned was OrbiMed.
Caduceus (Orbimed) is top quality. Another smaller (but in my view excellent) healthcare shop is BroadFin Capital.
Don't know if it's a "top" fund, but Consonance Capital headed by Mitchell Blutt is HC-focused. Some good articles on Blutt out there
