Help A Freshman Out: Which bb/firm/etc. did you guys intern at your freshman year?

I am planning to cold call several Investment Banks, Hedge Funds, and Consulting Firms to try to get an internship as a freshman. However, if you guys could list which firm you guys worked at as a freshman, that would be amazingly helpful to me and the many freshman on this site, as we would know which firms have hired freshman in the past.

A lot of people are giving you shit, but for the wrong reasons. Unless you go to a target school, a freshmen internship could really give you a leg up for sophomore internships, which are crucial for junior year summer analyst programs. So if you are at a non-target, there is no doubt that a freshmen & sophomore banking/PE internship can help you close that gap between you and a target student without any exeperience.

That being said, I will give you shit for asking other people to do work for you. There are no formal internship programs for freshmen, so you need to reach out to your alumni network or local boutiques and do the work yourself. Do your own work. People who have had freshmen internships cold emailed literally hundreds of firms for just one firm to take a chance on them. Just remember to keep track of all the firms that say you're too young, because you can reach out again for sophomore summer.

I interned at Harvey & Company my freshman year. It's a private equity advisory firm - not an awesome place where you're going to learn a ton. Mostly do the qualitative research for private equity firms based on the criteria they're looking for. They accepted a ton of freshman though from good schools and the upperclassmen that intern there are from pretty heavy non-targets. But it's great to have on a resume and can certainly spin it pretty easily. Guys that work there are incredibly chill. I applied in April and didn't hear back until May though, so it's a good last option if you don't hear anything before then. Located in Newport Beach, CA so can't beat the location.

I just interned at Axe Capital this summer (freshman summer) and am participating in an off-cycle fall internship at Pearson Specter Litt!

Just search online for internships that don't specify what year you need to be in. I found these on my guaranteed admissions internship programs at my college's career center. We have spots guaranteed as long as we match the required skillset.

I did strategy consulting at a mid/upper-tier firm (go to a target, had an employee referral).

Honestly, I'd suggest taking this summer off to chill and network for a job next year.

If you're hell bent on interning then your best shot is reaching out to relatives/alumni and looking at boutique firms in the city you live/go to school. Offer to work unpaid (if needed). Internships at brand name firms are highly unlikely unless you know someone high up at the firm
