How dangerous is it right now?

Been seeing a lot in the news about the riots (and it getting violent). For those of you living in NYC/SF/LA/Chicago and similar cities how dangerous is right now? Are you all even safe where you live? Are the dangerous areas known?

Currently in a college town (where > half the kids have gone home) so I have 0 "on the ground" knowledge. All I see is what is shown in media. Posted the OP to learn the truth of what is really going on.

Quit fear-mongering, there have been no large scale riots in weeks besides the Wendy’s in Atlanta

Atlanta is perfectly safe too. Some white lady dressed in all black burnt down the Wendy's - not protesters. There was a 10,000 person march on the state house just yesterday without any violence whatsoever and Georgia Republicans are pushing an anti-hate crime bill.

If a white lady in black did this, this would be natoinal news beyond wildest dreams. Why isno one talking about this/

The point is that the question was either purposefully in bad faith or comically uninformed. It has nothing to do with whether or not a person "supports a movement."

Wtf are you on about supporting a movement chief? OP could have used common sense and googled what he needed to know. The fact you're so quick to jump on my ass clearly shows you have an angle here.

Wut? Have you taken a glance at crime statistics YoY? I was born/raised here and there is a palpable change. Here are some fun facts from this weekend:

"(CNN) Murder, burglary and grand larceny auto crimes have spiked in New York City this past month compared to the same period last year, while rape, robbery and grand larceny crimes have declined, according to New York Police Department statistics.

**There have been 38 murders over the last 28 days, **twice as much as the same period last year, according to NYPD stats as of up to June 14. So far this year, there have been 159 murders, which is 25% higher than last year, the stats show.

Shooting incidents in 2020 are also up, with 394 happening to date, a 24% increase from the 317 shooting incidents at this point last year."

"Police say at least 18 people were shot and injured from midnight until about 7 P.M. on Saturday. Several NYPD officers have posted the number of shootings on social media, showing stats that report at least 23 people had been shot between Friday evening and Saturday evening."

"NEW YORK (WABC) -- It's been a violent week in New York City as 51 shootings were reported since Monday, June 15. There were at least 24 victims in 18 incidents on Sunday alone, the NYPD said. One of the latest shootings happened Saturday night in the East Village."

Lol I live in Minneapolis. Never felt unsafe, went for miles-long walks just fine. Fox News sucks ass.

Controversial

Should clarify - did feel unsafe when I saw police...

don't worry, you only got MS because you called out the far-right's visual bible: Fox News

Also from there. We were rooftop drinking this weekend. Everything is calm all things considered.

I'll feel less safe when the black hawks hovering over uptown start open firing. until then it's life as usual.

I live in the LA area. There’s been major protests ~2 miles from me. I was fine, just didn’t go outside while protests were going on. Don’t feel like catching COVID

Unless you are the glass in front of a luxury retail store, you'll be fine. Even the live streams of CHAZ show it's just a corny Burning Man-lite.

The #1 source of actual violence right now is cops acting against protestors. So don't stand in between looters and their loot or between cops and front line protestors and you'll be A-ok.

While the protests were going on on May 31st, a total of 18 people were murdered in Chicago, which was the highest single-day total in 60 years.

I would say generally safe, just be careful. I was jogging around London during the BLM protests and was diverted around the groups. Even on the "outskirts" of the large gatherings there were people throwing bottles, smoke bombs and just out there to make trouble. A minority of people, but still there. It is NOT like the fucking Wild West despite what some media outlets love to show. If you're in a large city and not participating in the protests, be careful and use logic. Job done.

I'm in LA. The last two weekends there were protests where 10K+ people marched - entirely safe. There seems to be less media coverage on the larger peaceful protests/marches from what I gather (save for local news coverage).

Orange County (the Staten Island/Long Island equivalent of Southern California) witnessed some counter-protests. Definitely some tension there, but let's be honest, there is a lot of fragile masculinity in the population of people protesting against BLM.

Dude, I'm within sight of the PGIM buildings in downtown Newark. Nothing's happened. It's fearmongering. I've got a decent baseline, my father worked in Branch Brook park where the Guard encamped in 1967.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Think you're coming in a bit late on this news. Groups of activists and artists actually painted really lovely images/messages over the boarded up windows in SoHo yesterday and there was a 15K+ peaceful march around gay/trans and black liberation in BK this past weekend.

Would recommend you download twitter, get some better on the ground coverage and catch up.

I hear you on that. Finding solid writing/info on twitter is hard because as with all social media and chosen news channels we ultimately end up in echo chambers that confirm our beliefs/biases.

That said, having access to hoards of on the ground video/pic coverage (most of which is uploaded directly to Twitter before any news channel picks it up and gives it their own spin) has been a really important part of following what's going on - particularly as it relates to instances of police violence against protestors.

Liberals denied the existance of gulags for decades, just like they deny the issue of mainly South Asian rape gangs in the UK.

''First thing: deny the problem'' is their motto. This thread being the confirmation.

Conservatives say this shit but will gladly fly a confederate flag and then deny that it isn't racist.

Any update here? Can I leave my house? Also, why hasnt COVID spread more rapidly due to crowded protests?

Thank you. I will review and come back with any comments or questions.

Appreciate the hard work here.

Statues attacked in the last 24 hours: -George Washington -Saint Junipero Serra -Ulysses S. Grant

Is there anyone who still wants to claim this is only about ''the Confederacy''?

No one is claiming it is only about the Confederacy.

We literally argued about this yesterday. You can scroll up and re-read it. You said it had nothing to do with the Confederacy. I said, no no, it does. That doesn’t mean it is only about the Confederacy, but that in America, it undoubtedly involves Confederate statues.

You are so bad at this.

So, what is it about?

The Left hates this country and wants to "delete" our history, culture, and founding principles. Begin with riots, remove statues, and then work to invalidate our Constitution and laws. What we are witnessing is the beginning of a Maoist-style cultural revolution.

It started with the Confederate statues, but it was obvious that it was not going to stop there. Let me be absolutely clear. The Confederacy committed treason, and I could care less about their flag or statues. But we should remove them via the legislative process at the state and local levels. And removing statues of our Founding Fathers and men such as Grant is asinine.

The defenders of statue removals argue that their statues must removed because they owned slaves (notwithstanding the fact that these idiots don't know that Grant defeated the Confederacy and as President used the federal military to crush the KKK). But the reason we honor men such as Washington/Jefferson is not because they owned slaves but rather their invaluable contribution to the founding of this country. We honor Churchill because he was probably the single most important individual in fighting the Nazis. Yes, Churchill was a racist. You know who else was? Virtually every European born in the 1800s. Even Einstein wrote some nasty comments about Chinese and Indians in his private letters. Should physics courses cancel the teaching of special and general relativity? Using the moral standards and norms of 2020 United States to judge truly accomplished important men who lived a long time ago, is an impossible standard, one that we ourselves will not meet a century from now. These leftist thugs are dangerous idiots.

Predictable levels of stupidity here.

The Confederacy lasted 5 years. “Two Broke Girls” lasted longer. Neither are your culture.

Likewise, statues don’t teach you history. Books do. Try reading one.
