Keybanc IB Analyst (Cleveland)

Anyone have any recent insights on Keybanc? Haven’t seen new information regarding overall comp in their IB groups (M&A) as well as reviews over the last twelve months for 1st and 2nd year analysts.

Looking to potentially lateral there. Much appreciated!

Key is a very group-dependent bank. Experience and lifestyle will differ a lot.
Solid MM groups are Industrials, HC, Tech, RE and M&A (mainly Industrials, as HC and Tech do own M&A).

Other groups are gonna be more financings with good lifestyle.

Bonuses are a bit low with a lifestyle tradeoff

I work at KBCM in CLE as a 1st year analyst and it's 105k base. The city is pretty mediocre but the cost of living is great. I pay less than $800/month for a luxury apartment and I can spend a little more on myself than other people can. It's obviously a tradeoff of being in a smaller city but having more vs a cooler city where it's more expensive.

I've only been at the firm for a little bit so take everything I say with a grain of salt. From my experience and from other analysts I've spoken to at KBCM CLE office, there seems to be a better quality of life than those at EB/BB. I get my weekends free 90% of the time, I get off latest around 11-12 with the average being 8 or 9, so I go for a workout almost every day after work. I obviously keep my email on just in case I get requests at night but it rarely happens past 11pm. It's not a bad gig and yeah sure it's not the best IB in terms of headline deals but the experience is good nonetheless. The deal teams at KBCM are quite lean and I get a ton of exposure to clients and modeling. Culture in CLE is chill. Haven't encountered any hardos personally. Hope that helps.

How do you feel about exits? The key guys I talked with didn’t have much to say in that regard but I live in CLE so I wouldn’t mind sticking around a little longer haha

I've seen a lot of analysts trade up to more recognizable brand name IB's but I've also seen a fair share of people go into industry specific roles. The doors are wide open. We don't place a ton of people into megafunds like KKR or BX. Not sure about LMM or MM PE. That's all I know at the moment haha sorry I can't be more helpful
