Does anyone have experience working in London based REPE ? Would be curious to learn how language plays a factor. Do you have to be fluent in the language of the market to cover or are institutional deals brokered / documented in English? Would someone building an OM for a warehouse in Frankfurt build it in several languages, for example (or at least English)? See a lot of top guys - say, John Krukal (Northwood) - had experience working in US REPE and then opening an office in London for European operations. When you see someone like David Law at Sculptor head to London, I’d have to imagine they’re focused on deals beyond just the UK, but could see language becoming a real challenge. Curious bc I think it would be exciting to do a foreign assignment in London focusing on Western Europe.

I am at one of the bigger REPE players in London and whilst language skills are beneficial, they are not essential. I only speak English and managed to get a seat at my shop.
That said, if you know French/Spanish/Italian etc as a second language then you're definitely at an advantage.
Can you provide some color about how you landed your current role? Also any UK specific job sites or headhunters that you know of that post real estate roles?
Not any specific recruiters - I applied to my firm directly and went through their interview process. LinkedIn does have quite a few listings for REPE jobs in London
And are you from the UK or EU? Trying to see what the difficulty is an American that would like to work in the UK at a real estate shop

Thanks for the insight. So, what does that mean for your day-to-day, insofar as the role of languages is concerned? Are you precluded from working on deals in non-English speaking jurisdictions? If not, how do you maneuver the legal process - are documents dual tracked in English?
