Hi Guys,

What's your opinion on post-undergrad offers from satellite office of MBB (think like minneapolis) vs OW GMC (specifically healthcare practice) in NYC, especially around exit opportunities? I would like to transition to VC or PE down the road. Thank you!

MBB. MBB Minni might not have PE placement like MBB NYC, but it's still MBB, and for PE and VC the name matters (plus satellite office placement has a little bit of selection bias - people who want to do PE don't often go to somewhere like Minneapolis). At McKinsey, if you do really well you can do a third year rotation in CorpFin or PE (or even spend the year working in the NY office) anyway, and I think Bain and BCG might have something vaguely similar. Plus, if it's McKinsey, they staff cases globally anyway, so you'll have some leeway.

both are awesome opportunities. OW has a strong finance background. i honestly believe both can lead you into PE, but the mck name will definitely help. http://www.berkshirepartners.com/who_team_assoc.shtml ,these associates are almost entirely comprised of mck/bain/gs. take what you want away from it, both are awesome, but i would take the mck...in my opinion, better exit opps

Isn't OW's strong finance background - which was recently discussed in another thread about PE - more present in their financial services practice? OW FS is top-3 and very good; OW healthcare isn't really anything special. Because you got placed in a different industry group, OW - in my mind at least - clearly loses to MBB.

The only exception is if you really don't want to work in the regional office. If you're from NYC and somehow got placed in Minneapolis, you might have to think about it, but I'm assuming that if you listed a regional office you have some kind of connection to it.

2x2Matrix is dead right - OW GMC is not quite as prestigious as OW FS. Go with MBB, aznlionheart.

Thanks for all your advice so far!

So geography-wise, I don't want to live in the regional city, it's a no-brainer to me vs NYC.

My concern is basically what some of you have echoed, that it's OW GMC, and specifically healthcare (which is my b/g), rather than the more prestigious OW FS. One way I was trying to think about this is, do you guys think OW healthcare in NYC would offer good opportunities for a healthcare-focused VC or PE fund, vs a generalist coming out of MBB satellite office?

And I guess for buyside in general, every seems to be saying MBB satellite office wins out?
