Mizuho associate/VP comp question

Hello,

I am a prospective MBA student, currently in the recruiting process and have recently learned about the strange base comp levels for associates/VPs at Mizuho investment banking.  Can anyone currently working there shed some light on the rationale and if this is accurate?

I am hearing that the associate base is at 150k, 175k, 200k and the VPs are also at 200k for all VP levels.  Does this mean that associates do not get a base raise when promoted to VP?  Is Mizuho the only bank that pays like this?  Thinking ahead a bit here and feel it would be tough to be a VP paid like other associates.  Welcome any insights from current employees and additional feedback on Mizuho's reputation/status on the street.  Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback on this so far.  My question is more on what the logic is behind paying associates the same as VPs?  I've never heard of this before.

I do have another opportunity lined up, about comparable to Mizuho in rep, so trying to make a decision soon.

Did you not read the post above? The rationale is that they haven’t raised VP based yet as they have with analysts and associates.

Yes I did and thanks.  Let me reword my question.  How is it possible to not raise VP comp accordingly now that associates make the same base?  Does Mizuho not care to retain VPs?
