Most Difficult Investment Banking Interviews
Anyone wanna share insight on the most difficult investment banks to interview with? From both my experience recruiting and hearing from friends as well - PJT, Centerview, PWP, and Evercore we're all pretty difficult. They were tough because of the dense technicals/finance knowledge, as well as requiring a pretty deep understanding of m&a deals. Some of them even just grill you on mental math and obscure calculations. Everyone I interviewed with at these firms were just extremely bright and pretty fuckin hardo. Curious to hear others experiences.
.
Interviewed with FTP and was pretty normal
FTP and Jeff Hou aren’t bad at all. CVP and PJT are decently hard but in line with EBs. Q is another beast, hardest interviews by far.
For my SA process, hardest were PJT/HL/EVR for their RX group
They basically just take kids who actually like finance and know very advanced topics
One of those firms you mentioned asked me to multiply two two-digit numbers in my head and the square root of a 4 digit number.
most likely Centerview
Centerview loves square roots and multiplication, as well as market sizing with obscure numbers just to make the math more difficult. Also asked me to discount a cash flow in my head.
I believe PWP also does questions similar to this
Can confirm they all do the same math questions!
Got something similar at Evercore
For M&A SA 2022, got slammed with tough technicals at Moelis and Evercore.
Interviewed at all, all great shops, all very tough!
got absolutely pounded by MoCo. Halfway thru i had to ask if they could pls use lube
Everyone on the street knows no lube is permitted at Moelis unless Ken says otherwise.
"Just use spit. Works in the movies" - K. Moelis
BB interviews were easy, MoCo LA and Evercore grilled me but nothing out of the ordinary for M&A (ended up with an offer from one of them) but Evercore's RX interview was insanely complex. Botched half of the questions just due to them being so strange and obscure.
Knew a kid with a first round at Q who got grilled for 45 minutes straight on accretion/dilution and FDSO / TSM over the phone by a VP who was getting his daily coffee on his walk over to work. Never seen someone get their ass pounded so casually. I don’t think he was even asked behaviorals and don’t believe he got the offer haha
Had CVP SA second round interview and since i already was asked the normal valuation/accounting questions just got asked a bunch of random questions about what terminal value methods to use for different industries and about business models. Not necessarily technically difficult but not something you prepare for much so threw me off.
I had superdays at both EVR and PJT M&A and I can honestly say that EVR was much harder technically
PWP and CVP ask a bunch of mental math thats just extremely difficult in all honesty.
EVR Rx was nonstop technicals
Got absolutely roasted for 3 hours straight
Lol
LAZ Rx was my hardest. Got absolutely grilled with extensive technicals and could only answer maybe half of them. Somehow made it to a 2nd round with an associate who didn't ask me a single technical question but destroyed my background. Was ghosted after that.
EB rx are getting insanely hard it you don’t have someone you know in rx to help you prep
