MS at Baruch
If you knew you wanted to do ER and had to do a master's at Baruch because you fucked up and needed it to rebrand yourself while also networking - which program would you do?
Statistics
Quantitative Methods and Modeling
http://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/programs/graduate/…
I'm leaning towards Baruch because a) maybe it would be easier to get into and b) I don't want to pay $40k+ for a 1 year degree. I'm from NYC, so I could live at home, avoiding paying rent and so on. I'm open to alternatives if they would be reasonably/comparably priced.
Thanks for any feedback.
howdy
can you post the courses? Without any knowledge, I would say stats, but I could be swayed pretty easily.
the quant stuff at baruch is known from MFE, different program
so if anything stats
Yea, I saw that the MFE program seems to be good, but it seems like it would be a waste of time to do that for ER, no?
I'm leaning towards stats because a) it would give me a lot of options if finance didn't work for some reason and b) "MS in Quantitative Methods and Modeling" evokes "wtf is that?"

bro...
probably finance or accounting is best bet for ER...
i mean, i agree about ms in quant being a waste of time. but take my advice with a grain of salt, i go to baruch.
The accounting program would be the most useful one, but depending how many credits they waive, the program requires 8-22 courses. I'm a little concerned about time/money.
definitely tough, is it possible to get another bachelor's without doing the liberal arts bs, and just finish that in 2 years? not enough for cpa, but still... get mba later?
I thought about a second bachelor's, but everyone has pretty much dismissed unless it's for an unrelated field change.
Might as well challenge myself with a graduate program which happens to be equal in length or even shorter.
what was your degree in?
BS Economics
so accounting and finance aren't the same thing...
Yea, but I really don't want to take out loans in excess of $40k to go to a private university to do an MSF, especially since none of the decent MSF programs are near the city?
Would an MS in Stats really look that bad when I knew I wanted to do ER yet explained I wanted to save some money?
I am doing the CFA as well to show my interest.
i dont know enough to talk about what will look good or bad.
I just know that stats isn't really related to what they do there. and it wouldn't make sense for you to pay anything for something that isn't going to benefit you...
def don't pay 40k at a tier 3 bs school. but i think your best option is ms in accounting at baruch or finance if that's available.
I've been looking at Baruch's programs as well. Still deciding whether to attend Baruch or take the CFA. I'm not certain doing both at the same time would be wise especially if you're working or interning. I was actually looking more into their APT MBA program but their MS programs are interesting as well since they're short. The low cost is very attractive.
Please do not take these programs: Statistics and Quantitative Methods and Modeling. They are all craps and you are wasting your time. Baruch MFE is the only legit program: http://mfe.baruch.cuny.edu/. Or if you already have experience: Executive MS in Finance http://zicklin.baruch.cuny.edu/programs/exec/ms. And if you were really serious about ER, please bust your ass to get into Baruch Equity Research Team for NYSSA Investment Challenge. It opens up doors for ER.
^Agree 100%. MFE, EMSF at least in terms of ER.
The MFE is extremely hard to get into from what I know. I'm at Baruch now for a 2nd bachelor after doing something completely unrelated before and I'm also interning and studying for the CFA. I should be done in about 2 1/2 years total time, all said i'm not sure i would do it again, my goal is equity research or asset management but both roles tend to favor mba and ms degrees. And like the previous person, I mentioned, I intend to bust my ass to get into the equity research team next fall....
Yea, I didn't consider the MFE because the program seems pretty competitive, and I'm not really interested in quantitative analysis.
What degree do you have and what are you going for now? I wasn't aware that Baruch took 2nd degree students; I bet you have to do a bunch of classes outside the major.
Anyway, I've been giving it some more thought, and I think I will just have to bite the bullet and look at MSFs. Villanova's program seems really good, so I will give them a call and tell them I'm willing to jump through any hoops they want me to.
