Must know Summer analyst interview questions

Wanted to start a thread of interview questions you are going to get and need to know like the back of your hand. Obviously, Walk me through your resume on the behavioral side and how a certain transaction affects the three financial statements on the technical side.

List below any for sure questions you have to know no doubt.

Great list. The below are some questions that I like to ask; these kind of depend on the interviewer and type of bank.

  1. Why do you want to work at X firm?
  2. Tell me something about you that isn't on your resume (I give bonus points for an answer that has nothing to do with work / banking)
  3. How would you rank the valuation methods form highest to lowest value? Why?

“Do you have any questions for me?”

I think this is pretty underrated, but definitely a way to distinguish yourself and stand out by asking a unique question.

Pro tip: Always use this question to talk about a current event affecting the sector you’re interviewing for. If it’s a generalist position ask about any headline in the news that may affect M&A activity. Usually takes the interviewers by surprise and allows them to give their opinion on how the work they do impacts the real world.

The “Why did you choose this firm/go into banking” is boring and overused.

My only concern with this is the possibility of coming off as a hardo. In your experience asking this, have you ever gotten that reaction, or has it always been just being impressed at your industry knowledge?
